The Myrtle Beach area Sun Fun Celebration of Summer ends with the 6th Annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival held Sept. 2-4, 2011. This family-friendly festival, organized by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, will feature a fun-filled day full of free live entertainment, wake board demonstrations, free boat rides plus meet celebrity chef Richard Blais, winner of BRAVO TV’s ‘Top Chef: All Stars’ hit show! You can be assured you won’t be far from the activities when staying in one of our Vacation rentals in Myrtle Beach.
This year is the first time the festival is extended with Sunday activities! The festival hours are Friday, September 2, 5:30-9 p.m.; Saturday, September 3, 12-9:30 p.m.; Sunday, September 4, 12-5 p.m.
The main attraction is always the finger-lickin, lip-smackin’ good food and lots of it from food vendors and competitors. Attendees can sample delicious barbeque from all competing teams on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. by purchasing a $10 wristband. Kids 10 and under can sample for free. On Sunday attendees can enjoy a wide variety of wings and watch as hungry competitors challenge each other in a wing ‘eat-off’. Kids will do the same in a watermelon eating contest that follows. Lots of great prizes await the winners, as well as free watermelon for all attendees at 2 p.m. Vacation rentals in Myrtle Beach that are close by make it easy to retreat to your home-away-from-home to recharge for the evening’s entertainment.
Three cooking events promise to attract the nation’s finest competitors: Anything Goes contest and tasting on Friday and the Official S.C. Barbeque Championship and Kansas City Barbeque Society Cook-off on Saturday. Each competition will award prize money. Proceeds from the Smoke on the Beach BBQ event are for the benefit of Omar Shrine Center, and payments are not deductible as charitable contributions.
