Speaking of country music, how would you like to check out the largest country music enterprise on the whole East Coast? That’s exactly what you’ll get when you step into the world-famous Calvin Gilmore Theatre.

If it’s accolades you’re looking for, this place has got you covered there too! In fact, the theatre’s main attraction (The Carolina Opry) is the only show that’s won the Governor’s Cup, which is the “gold medal” of tourism awards.

The Palace Theatre

It’s a sad fact that most of us will never get to see music legends like The Beatles in concert. But if you spend a night out at The Palace Theatre, you’ll get the next best thing!

Sometimes, the most exceptional things of all are the local special events that take place like this 36^th Annual Aynor Harvest Hoedown Festival taking place on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Aynor.

For those that have never experienced a genuine hoedown festival, it’s an event not to be missed. It includes hundreds of arts & craft vendors, food vendors, a parade at 10 a.m., music entertainment from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., a street dance from 7-10 p.m. and plenty of children’s entertainment.

This event is always the third Saturday in September. It’s sponsored by the Pilot Club of Aynor, Inc. Following is the schedule for the day.

Things To Do This Weekend

On October 15, 2011, you can catch the Rock Back the Clock Festival at La Belle Amie Vineyard in Little River, SC.

The 12th Annual Surfrider Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off will be held on Sunday, October 16th, from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Spuds Waterfront Dining in Murrells Inlet. This annual chili competition will feature categories such as Best Overall, Best Restaurant, People’s Choice, Most Original, Best Theme, Best Use of South Carolina Ingredients, and Hottest Chili. Samples will be available for $1 each. Entertainment includes performances by Danielle Howle, Sawgrass, The Noseriders, Octopus Jones, Pur Cult, and Ten Toes Up. There will be food, soft drinks, face painting, and inflatables for the kids, as well as displays from local environmental non-profits, businesses, and artists for the whole family. Cash prizes go to all winners and will be awarded to all first and second place entries in each category. In addition, there will be one Best Overall and one Best Restaurant.
This year there will also be a special competition featuring previous winners, requiring them to prepare chili with one secret main ingredient. All proceeds from the Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off will be used for projects of the Grand Strand Surfrider Foundation, an all-volunteer, 501 c 3 non-profit serving the Grand Strand since 1998. All donations are tax-deductible. Admission is free and this event is open to the public.

As we all shed a tear over the departing Dixie Stampede we welcome the all new Pirate Voyage with open arms! This Pirate themed dinner show features pirates battling in full size ships with an indoor water lagoon. Live animals and music add to the excitement of each show. You will also enjoy the four course “pirate feast” while cheering your side to victory! This attraction will open the very beginning of June.
