Christmas Fun for Everyone Around Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is home to fun events all year long, but as Christmas draws near a festive spirit fills the air as numerous holiday celebrations will be happening all along the Grand Strand! From musical extravaganzas to fun-filled festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are a few of the biggest holiday events to check out during your upcoming vacation to Myrtle Beach.
Winter Wonderland at the Beach
Lasting from November 26th through January 2nd, the Winter Wonderland at the Beach celebration will fill the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk with holiday fun daily from 3 PM to 11 PM. During the festival, Christmas exhibits, outdoor ice skating, light shows and more will delight guests, with all the fun taking place at the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place, right across from the iconic Boardwalk. Nightly entertainment will also take place at Plyler Park, located a block away at the base of the Myrtle Beach Skywheel. Various admission tickets are available for purchase at the main entrance of the event.
The Great Christmas Light Show
One of the biggest and best light shows in the state will be happening at the North Myrtle Beach Sports and Parks Complex as the Great Christmas Light Show returns to the Grand Strand. This holiday spectacular takes place nightly from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM from December 1st to December 30th (closed Christmas Day). The route of the Great Christmas Light Show takes vehicles along a 2-mile stretch of brilliantly illuminated pathways complete with dazzling displays and colorful lighted fixtures up to 55 feet tall, with over 2 million lights twinkling throughout the area. Following your tour, guests can stop at Santa’s Village to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, take a train ride on Santa’s express and even meet the jolly old man himself! Santa’s Village is open on Thursday to Sunday from December 1st to 12th, and open nightly from December 16th to 30th.
Polar Express Cruise
For a unique spin on a classic Christmas story, climb aboard the Barefoot Queen riverboat for their Polar Express Cruise! Setting sail from Barefoot Landing, this event takes place nightly from December 2nd through December 17th. During the cruise guests will enjoy the retelling of the Polar Express story, a great assortment of holiday snacks from Croissants Bistro and Bakery and a surprise visit from Santa Claus! This is sure to be a popular holiday event so be sure to book your spot early!
The Carolina Opry Christmas Special
With a history spanning almost four decades, the Carolina Opry Christmas Special has delighted countless spectators with world-class singers and dancers putting on the holiday show that is consistently praised as one of the best in the country. 2021 marks the 36th installment of the musical celebration and this year continues to showcase amazing vocal talent. Featured vocalists include Delvin Choice of NBC’s hit show The Voice, talented baritone Moses Braxton, Nashville artist Brad Long, Tangena Church and Christie Templeton. The show also features the musical stylings of a brass orchestra and over 30 more vocalists and musicians. In addition to the musical performances, the Christmas Special showcases popular clogging group All That and the Margaret Rice dancers. All this entertainment is accompanied by tremendous holiday decor and dramatic elements like live horse-drawn sleighs and gently blowing snow. Shows take place nightly from now through January 2nd with matinees offered on select dates.
