Ready, Set, Book! Make Plans for the Myrtle Beach Marathon
One of the Grand Strand’s biggest annual events returns on May 1st with the 24th annual Myrtle Beach Marathon! The Marathon has attracted thousands of competitors over its two-plus decade existence and is beloved by runners for its fast and flat conditions, taking racers all around Myrtle Beach including a stretch along Ocean Boulevard. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a novice, there are plenty of events during the weekend that cater to all skill levels.
The organizers of the Myrtle Beach Marathon have gone to great lengths to ensure that this year’s race is handled safely and to ensure the well-being and peace of mind of all runners taking part. Normally taking place in March, this year the race will be held on May 1st and runners should expect warm, sunny skies that will be perfect for race day! This year over 5,000 runners are anticipated to take part, and that number may increase as the race organizers have added virtual race options for those who may not be able to make it to Myrtle Beach for the event.
For those who do plan on travelling to the Grand Strand for the Marathon, several different races are planned for the morning of Saturday, May 1st. Things begin with wheelchair and crankchair racers departing the starting line at 6:55 AM, with the first packs of marathon runners following at 7 AM. Following the marathon participants, half-marathon runners will begin at 7:10 AM, and finally 10K runners will start at 8 AM. Racers will depart on their journey from the intersection south of Monticello Drive and Robert Grissom Parkway, traversing up Highway 17, through the Market Common area, back down Ocean Boulevard and finishing at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Finishers of the race will receive a great assortment of Marathon swag, including official race shirts and medals with a brand new design for 2021. Also, organizers will be mailing out official race bibs a week before the race, another step to ensure racers’ safety during the event.
